SPIDER VEIN QUESTIONS
Frequently Asked Questions About Spider Veins
What causes spider veins?
Spider veins usually develop when vein valves do not work properly and blood pools, making small veins visible. Age, excess weight, family history, smoking history and hormonal changes can all contribute.
How are spider veins treated?
Sclerotherapy is a common treatment, using an injected solution such as Varithena® or polidocanol foam. Laser may be used for very small red veins, and VenaSeal™ can address deeper vein problems that feed visible veins.
Is spider vein treatment covered by insurance?
Treatment that is purely cosmetic is usually not covered. If your spider veins come with pain, swelling or an underlying vein problem, coverage may be possible. Call 904-990-0777 and we will help you understand your options.
Does treatment hurt?
Most patients feel a mild pinch or stinging during injections and return to their normal activities quickly. We will explain what to expect before your visit.
When should I seek treatment?
Consider a visit if you are bothered by the way your veins look, or if you have itching, bleeding, leg pain, swelling or heaviness.
